During the spring semester, the project transitioned from conceptual development to the detailed design and refinement of Alternative Design Option 3, which was selected as the most optimal solution. Building on the analysis and selection work completed in the fall, the team finalized all aspects of the proposed design.

As part of a comprehensive redesign of the Route 1 corridor in Lawrenceville, NJ, the team targeted improvements at four key intersections to enhance safety, traffic flow, and multimodal access. At the southern end, the high-speed branching interchange was replaced with a signalized intersection and reduced the speed limit to calm traffic and introduced safe pedestrian crossings.

Further north at the Route 1 and Greenberg Road intersection, a two-lane roundabout was introduced along with bicycle lanes, sidewalks, and pedestrian crosswalks to improve connectivity and safety.

At the Route 1 and Bakers Basin Road intersection, another two-lane roundabout was proposed to reduce congestion and conflict points, with multimodal facilities added to support cyclists and pedestrians.

Finally, the Bakers Basin and Greenberg Road intersection was redesigned as a signalized intersection with optimized lane configurations, signal phasing, and enhanced pedestrian and bicycle accommodations. Collectively, these improvements reflect a shift toward safer, more efficient, and inclusive transportation infrastructure.

The proposed redesign prioritizes both operational efficiency and user safety, offering a long-term solution that serves motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists alike. This design was able to align with the main goals of prioritizing safety and slowing down vehicle speeds.
In conclusion, comprehensive cost estimates were developed for both the engineering and construction phases, with all project deliverables—such as construction drawings, cost evaluations, and written reports—completed on schedule. At project completion, the estimated costs were $41,000 for engineering and $12 million for construction.
