Nick Cavallero
Team Leader | Hardware
Nick is a senior biomedical engineering student from Howell, NJ. He began his role as an undergraduate research assistant under Dr. Anthony Lau through TCNJ’s Mentored Undergraduate Summer Experience (MUSE) in the summer of 2022. This project focused on the effect of galactic cosmic radiation (GCR) on bone microstructural properties, with work continuing into the following and current academic school year. During the summer of 2023, Nick worked as summer research intern through the Wake Forest School of Medicine Biomedical Engineering REU. He worked under Drs. Joel Stitzel and Jillian Urban on a sports injury biomechanics project. Nick is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in injury biomechanics at Wake Forest University.
Allen Hong
Treasurer | Material Selection
Allen is a senior biomedical engineering student from Jackson, NJ. He joined Dr. Xuefeng Wei’s lab in the summer of 2021 for the Mentored Undergraduate Experience (MUSE) program and continues to conduct neuromodulation research with his partner Nikhil. Allen also conducted research at Johns Hopkins University for the Computational Sensing Medical Robotics (CSMR) REU program. His research has been presented at the Biomedical Engineering Society Conference in 2021 and 2022 as well as the SPIE: Medical Imaging Conference where his work was published in the conference proceedings. In addition, he gained industry experience at medical device companies Johnson & Johnson and Medtronic as a 6-month co-op and summer intern. Allen, a recipient of the NSF GRFP, currently is working toward his Ph.D. at Columbia University.
Nikhil Parab
Secretary | Design & Testing
Nikhil is a senior biomedical engineering student from Monroe Township, NJ. He conducted public health research during the summer of 2022 under the guidance of Dr. Alexis Mraz through the Mentored Undergraduate Summer Experience (MUSE) program. He continued his research throughout his junior year. Additionally, during his junior year, Nikhil conducted quantitative neuroscience research in collaboration with Dr. Xuefeng Wei and his partner Allen. In the summer of 2023, Nikhil completed a 12-week program at the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) functional transcriptomics laboratory, part of the National Institute of Health (NIH). Following college, Nikhil aspires to pursue an Ph.D to continue a career in clinical and translational research.
Sebastian Winter
Webmaster | Software & Simulation
Sebastian is a senior biomedical engineering student from Blairstown, NJ. During the summer of 2022 and throughout junior year, he researched surface electromyography (sEMG) to create a handheld muscle fatigue analyzer under the direction of Dr. Brett BuSha. Sebastian worked as a computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulation and testing intern at Becton Dickinson during the summer of 2023 in Research Triangle Park, NC. Sebastian also worked part time as a Respiratory Equipment Technician at Penn Medicine Princeton Health to gain insight into the use of medical devices in a healthcare setting. He currently works at Medtronic and later plans to earn his master’s degree in engineering management and/or his MBA.
