Project Overview

The American Society of Civil Engineers organizes the national Concrete Canoe competition for engineering schools across the country.  The competition consists of both speed and agility in a race for men’s, women’s and coed concrete canoe teams. A team of five civil engineering students propose to represent The College of New Jersey in the Spring of 2020 for the ASCE Concrete Canoe competition. The concrete canoe competition is a practical experience where we can apply the concepts we learned from class in a real life setting that challenges us to compete against time and think efficiently.  This competition will allow us to display our technical skills and creative thinking as engineers.

The canoe must be designed in order to fit four team members for the competition.  Additionally, the canoe must be equal points fast, buyant and maneuverable attributes. Each of the team member’s are assigned set jobs will allow the team to maximize the quality of the final product. Our team has set a goal is to win regionals competition and advance to the national competition.

The construction of the canoe will require the team to think outside of the box in regards to the structural properties of concrete. This acquired knowledge of concrete properties will be crucial of the success in the construction of the canoe and competition.
