The prototype device must cost less than $375 to manufacture and test.
The device retail cost must be affordable for COPD patients, particularly those in economically disadvantaged areas.

Global

The device must be adaptable for international use.

Environmental

The device must support recharging.
Any waste (batteries, electronic waste) produced in the development process must be disposed of correctly.

Social

The device must produce minimal noise.
The device must allow users to engage in normal social interaction without disruption.

Ethical

Testing must be done in accordance with acceptable human testing standards.
Patient privacy must be protected, with no raw audio stored or transmitted.

Health and Safety

The device must comply with electrical safety standards for use and manufacturing.
The device must be able to be cleaned.

Manufacturability

The device must be manufactured and able to undergo verification and validation testing utilizing equipment available to TCNJ students.

Sustainability

The device should be durable and repairable for long-term use.
Modular components (battery pack, sensor units) should be replaceable
