Cradle Cam

Welcome to the Cradle Cam baby monitor website! Progress updates will be posted throughout the semester.

Introduction

Caregivers often experience increased stress due to the new responsibilities of caring for infants. Common concerns include the health and well-being of the baby. In the US, over 3,500 babies die each year due to ill-defined deaths, choking or suffocation, and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). A monitor that alerts caregivers of changes in infant vitals may help alleviate concerns and improve their well-being. The Owlet Dream sock measures pulse rate, O2 saturation, wakings, and sleep trends with a sensor placed on the foot. The Owlet device requires contact with the baby’s foot to make measurements. This increases the chance of irritation or movement of the sensor during sleep. Cradle Cam seeks to remove these limitations by measuring heart rate, respiratory rate, body temperature, and body position without contacting the baby. The target population is babies from 0 to 18 months of age.
