Updates

09Sep2023: Hello! This past week, we officially began working on this project. We hope to have more updates soon!

05Oct2023: In the past month, we have further detailed the design of our device. We added more specification to the problem statement and wrote our design requirements. These are published on our Problem Statement page. We are currently developing specifications for these requirements and creating design solutions.

19Oct2023: We are beginning preliminary design sketches, finalizing our requirements, and developing specs and justification. We have also identified our standards and are working towards a presentation at the end of the month.

2Nov2023: Yesterday, we had our interim design review presentation. We are currently processing feedback from our instructors to incorporate into our design solution.

13Feb2023: We have adjusted our proposed design solution to include more user-friendly attachments and interface, such as the use of velcro. We have also began executing design verification protocols. We are additionally adjusting the acceptance criteria. Below is a sample of the verification data for the rotational potentiometers, as well as the process for doing so:

Finally, we are looking to incorporate flex sensors rather than linear potentiometers due to their low cost and size. The validation protocol for design inputs is also completed and awaiting instructor feedback.

18March2024- Our development of the calibration protocols and verification testing protocols are going well. We have developed protocols for testing the flex sensors and rotational potentiometers. Additionally, we have begun to integrate the sensors into the glove using different sewing techniques.

15April2024- Hello! We have quite a few updates on the progression of our project. First, on April 5th, we competed in NEBEC with our peers. The GripSense team won honorable mention of the entire competition, and we ranked highest of TCNJ BME projects this year. In terms of technical updates, all of our sensors have been verified and calibrated. They are ready for implementation! Our team is working on integrating the sensors into the glove itself, and we expect to have much of it done by this week. In the meantime, we are also working on our protocols, fixing our IRB, and developing circuit diagrams. Additionally, we are working to implement data exportation into the design. Below we included a picture of the glove with the flex sensor pockets sewn in, and our team at NEBEC!

2May2024: Hello! This week marks the conclusion of our senior design project. We have created a final prototype capable of collecting and exporting data, including 15 sensors, a microcontroller, battery, armband, and more. On 01May2024, we presented our final report and it went extremely well. We also presented on 30April2024 at TCNJ’s COSA (Celebration of Student Achievement) conference. We are so proud of our final device!
