Baja SAE is one of the largest engineering competitions in the world and is hosted annually by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). There are 3 competitions in the US, with 100 teams per competition. This year the competitions are taking place in California, Kansas, and Illinois. Our team will be competing in Peoria, Illinois on June 7-10, 2017. The competition takes place at Caterpillar Edwards Demonstration and Learning Center. The course is designed to test Caterpillar’s heavy machinery and will definitely be a good test for our vehicle. Photographs of the 2014 Peoria course are shown below.

The competition is comprised of static and dynamic events. The scoring is out of 1000 points, and the events and their worth are listed below:
