Design Inputs

Requirement 1 – Resting Heart Rate (RHR)

  • Device must measure resting heart rate
  • Range: 61–92 BPM with ±2 BPM accuracy
  • RHR varies with menstrual cycle phases

Requirement 2 – Skin Conductance

  • Device must measure skin conductance
  • Range: 0.05–5 μS
  • Reflects sympathetic nervous system activity, which rises before ovulation

Requirement 3 – Basal Skin Temperature

  • Device must measure basal skin temperature
  • Accuracy: TBD | Location: TBD
  • Temperature is typically higher in the luteal phase vs. follicular/ovulatory phases

Requirement 4 – Wearability

  • Must be lightweight (< X g) and compact (< Y cm³)
  • Concealable under clothing
  • Conforms to body contours and causes no irritation

Requirement 5 – Safety Standards

  • Must comply with IEC 61010-1 safety standards
  • Leakage current ≤ 0.5 mA under normal or fault conditions
  • Protects against electrical and mechanical hazards

Requirement 6 – Communication

  • Device must communicate data to the user
  • Output indicates cycle phase with X% certainty
  • Provides clear, user-friendly interpretation

Additional Requirements

  • Robust: Operates under daily use, survives drop from X m
  • Comfortable: Fits body contours, no irritation in wear
  • Durability: Long-lasting and reliable
  • Waterproof: Meets IPX7 standard
  • Electrical Safety: Compliant with IEC 60601-1
  • Battery Life: ≥ X hours per charge
  • Biocompatibility: ISO 10993 compliant
  • Storage Capacity: ≥ X hours of data
