The hybrid mono-hull design will be used by the 2016 team. The hybrid hull has the ability to plane as well as displace water at respective critical speeds.

First constructed in 2009 and used for competition again in 2012, the balsa wood hybrid mono-hull has had success because of its ability to perfrom in both the sprint and endurance portions of the competition. In 2015 the stern of the hull was shortened in order to fit the surface drive within the required maximum length of the boat (specified by the Solar Splash competion).
