Problem Statement

According to the 2019-2020 AISC Student Steel Bridge Competition Rule Book, Katy Trail State Park in Missouri features a recreational trail that extends for 240+ miles.  Along this trail, flooding has caused a new waterway to develop, and this year’s steel bridge teams are tasked with designing a skewed steel bridge to cross the waterway.  Bridge teams must design and construct a steel bridge that can withstand wind loads as well as pedestrian loads, all while keeping in mind various geometric constraints, weight, appearance and cost.
