Project Summary and Objectives

Students compete to design and build an intelligent ground vehicle that can follow lanes, detect obstacles, and follow waypoint navigation. Competition is held in June at Oakland University, Rochester, Michigan, USA. In order to complete a fully functional autonomous vehicle, the following must be considered: the design and build of the frame, suspension, drivetrain while incorporating the needed sensors along with algorithms all while following the specified design constraints. It is essential that an appropriate budget must be met while designing the vehicle. The understanding of Matlab and its toolboxes to incorporate the sensors is a must. Key concepts for the vehicle to run through the track is image processing to stay within the lines, use of lasers for obstacle avoidance, and GPS navigation to get from one point to another.
