The device must raise skin temperature to 42 \u00b1 3 \u2103 within 3 minutes and maintain it for 15 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Physiology texts have stated that vasodilation increases oxygen uptake and metabolism for up to 20 minutes of heat application. TMJD patients are most sensitive to heat at 42 \u2103. Heating skin temperature over 47 \u2103 is no longer beneficial and may harm the patient. A microcontroller will be used to regulate heat output.<\/p>\n<p>Design Solution: The Adafruit heating source is a 10 by 5 centimeters, compatible with 5-12VDC sources, and provides detailed tables containing voltage, current, and temperature data.
