Introduction

The goal of the CAF prosthesis socket is to address the needs of the 1.6 million individuals who live with limb loss in the US. Loss of the limb stems mainly from vascular disease and trauma, and leads to a variety of difficulties for amputees to remain active in their day to day lives. While there are currently designs in place for a full protheses equipped with socket designs including: the infinite socket, Hi Fi socket, and Socketless Socket. There are often compromises in comfort and adjustability. When these aspects of design are accounted for, solutions tend to be costly and may exclude amputees from certain economic backgrounds. Therefore, it is the aim of the CAF group to design a socket with the aspects of Comfortability, Adjustability, and Functionality in mind to improve the overall quality of prothesis fit for patient.
