Nicholas (Nick) Markovic is a senior biomedical engineering major at The College of New Jersey (’21). Nick serves as the team leader and utilizes previous research experience for device simulation and mechanical testing. After graduation, Nick will be working in industry for a year, prior to attending medical school in pursuit of an MD/Ph.D. degree.

Rosalie Connell
Team Role: Website Coordinator
Engineering Role: Test Engineer
Rosalie Connell is a senior biomedical engineering major at The College of New Jersey (’21). Rosalie serves as the team’s webmaster, and uses her biomechanics research experience to help implement validation and verification testing for the collar design. After graduation, Rosalie plans to pursue a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering with a focus in injury biomechanics at The Ohio State University.

Hannah Palahnuk
Team Role: Secretary
Engineering Role: Material Engineer
Hannah Palahnuk is a senior biomedical engineering major at The College of New Jersey (’21). She uses her past experience from her material science REU to guide the team with material considerations for the design. After graduation, Hannah plans to attend graduate school at Pennsylvania State University, with intentions to study material science in pursuit of a Ph.D.

Jonathan Vasquez
Team Role: Treasurer
Engineering Role: Test Engineer
Jonathan (Jon) Vasquez is a senior biomedical engineering major at The College of New Jersey (’21). Jon serves as the design coordinator for the team, with expertise in CAD softwares and engineering sketching. After graduation, Jon plans on obtaining an industry position as a biomedical engineer before pursuing a graduate degree.

Dr. Leila Mehraban Alvandi
Team Advisor
Dr. Alvandi earned her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Material Science Engineering from the University of Tehran. More recently, she earned her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Biomedical Engineering from City College of New York for her work investigating bone fracture biomechanics under creep loading. For which she received the Young Investigator Award from the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research.
