Project Details

The ASCE holds an annual regional and national concrete canoe competition for collegiate engineering schools, consisting of speed and agility races for men’s, women’s, and coed teams.  This team of five TCNJ civil engineering students proposes to represent the college in the spring of 2018.The project is an experience where we can apply concepts learned from class in a real-life setting. It’s an opportunity to combine skills and creativity.

The team’s desired outcome is to assemble a canoe that can fit four team members while being strong, buoyant, fast, and maneuverable.Through organization and the ability to maximize the potential of each member’s strengths, this team confidently structured itself. As for the competition, the team’s goal is to win at the regional level and compete at the national level.

Applying a structural material like concrete to the construction of a canoe will force the team to think creatively and challenge their prior experiences in civil engineering courses, showing their knowledge of the material.
