The Design Process (Spring, Week 7-9)

Week 7 (March 15th-March 22nd)

During this week, our team filled out an IRB outline for subject testing.

Finite Element Analysis started, however, it has been giving us issues. Sometimes, the simulation would run on forever or it would not converge but give us an output file. We are working and researching on ways to make our implant in the femur bone converge.

Week 8 (March 22nd-March 29th)

The pins and screw were printed (updated models). We tested if it would fit into the hole and chambers and it did.

The mechanism was also tested, and it was discovered that it functioned the way we wanted it to. As the screw is going down the hole, the hemisphere at the end of the screw was pushing out the pins.

Finite Element Analysis is giving us a difficult time and is an obstacle to collect our data. We are reaching out to professors for help.

Week 9 (March 29th-April 5th)

Doing the same thing as last week, where our team is working on the Finite Element Analysis of the hip implant in the femur bone.

Our material to manufacture the hip implant came in this week as well and we are planning to build it out of stainless steel for mechanical testing in this next upcoming weeks.
