The Design Process (End of Fall Semester, Week 13)

Week 13 (November 23rd-November 30th)

As the semester is coming to an end, our team created a preliminary SolidWorks model of design 4 along with the trapezoidal prism pin tips. This is the final stage of when the pin tips are fully ejected when the screw is inserted at the hole near the neck of the stem, as seen in the 3-D drawing with the arrow below. Though this is the concept of our final design, our team is currently figuring out the best way to eject the ends of the pins utilizing the screw interaction within the stem. Another thing to mention is that there are 4 pins on the left view and 3 pins on the right view in the 3-D drawing. The number of pins on both sides were chosen arbitrarily, but are placed to come in contact with the trabecular bone in Gruen zone 1 and 7 to focus on the main stress shielding area. The number of pins on each side may change as we test more or when we change the dimension of the trapezoidal prism tips. Again, this is all preliminary, so dimensions and number of pins may change in the future. Below is the SolidWorks model and 3-D drawing.

After Fall Semester (Winter Break)

During our winter break, we will continue to update this website when certain tasks are completed. There will be a tab for what we are going to do in winter break, similar to the fall semester.
