September 2022

The birth of H.A.L.O has finally been brought to life. We began our Senior Project process this Fall by discussing and brainstorming our long-term goals for this semester and completing some preliminary requirements. Additionally, this website with the custom URL “https://engprojects.tcnj.edu/halo-orthotic” was finally brought to reality, allowing us to present our innovative therapeutic back brace to the world. Feel free to share this webpage with anyone along with commenting on any questions you may have for H.A.L.O below!

For the first three weeks of this month we want to define our needs and limitations for our therapeutic device. Please feel free to view why we believe there is a need in the Introduction tab. The success of H.A.L.O depends on these first steps of Design Control, and we can’t wait to see the results and keep everyone updated!

October 2022

In addition to defining and specifying the H.A.L.O prototype, we started several crucial steps in device design in October and outlined the decision-making process for the parts and components that will make up our innovation. Additionally, three-dimensional models of some of these parts as well as the H.A.L.O assembly are now in development, and several design ideas are almost ready to be published here. In the very near future, we look forward to describing what H.A.L.O will do and look like, as well as revealing our design and part selection progress. Be on the lookout for some intriguing new developments!

November 2022

In October, we began some essential steps that would not only define and specify the prototype for H.A.L.O but begin initial steps in device design and outline decision making on the parts and components that the device will comprise of. Other implementations to our device have also been brainstormed with the incorporation of EMG and movement limitation in order to decrease the chance of further injury. We look forward to sharing our progress on design, part selection and specifying what H.A.L.O will do and look like in the very near future.

December 2022

In December we finalized some autocad designs for our compression portion of the device. Our main focus with the mechanical compression is to remove the movement the user’s arms in order to adjust the compression of the device. As well as a finalized schematic of what our electrical design will compose of.

Stay tuned for any further progress in our device!

February 2023

Through the month of February the team has been busy working on the electrical circuit for the project. At the end of the month, the hard work has paid off. Our circuit model is now working correctly, with pulse modulations that allow for a proper turn off system when temperatures reach the target temperature. We have also been working on some validation protocols as well as the structure of the belt.
