The IVenture team was able to create 3 viable design solutions for the IVenture product.

Design 1: Joy-Stick Operated Device

Figure features a joy stick mechanism, that will utilize the user input and move the device accordingly

Pros of the Design:

  1. Fine control over the movement
  2. Low cost relative to the other design solutions
  3. The joystick will be intuitive to utilize if users are used to playing on Wii Nunchuck

Cons of the Design:

  1. Learning curve of utilizing the joystick
  2. Safety concerns about unintentional input

Design 2: Automated Patient Tracking Mechanism

This design features a 4 wheel base with an inertial measurement unit (IMU) tracking mechanism attached to the device.

Pros of the Design:

  1. Greatest reduction in work required to move common IV equipment
  2. Least hindrance to gait mechanics

Cons of the Design:

  1. Calibration of both Inertial Measuring Units

Design 3: Pressure Plate mechanism

Design features a pressure plate mechanism that presses down on the direction the device wants to be maneuvered and goes in that set direction

Pros of the Design:

  1. It will be similar to utilizing a common IV pole
  2. Precise/ easy direction control

Cons of the Design:

  1. Calibration of the sensor threshold

Verdict:

The IVenture team created decision matrices and determined the joystick mechanism was the best choice for their device.
