UPDATE FOUR: Final Alternative Design

Using VisualAnalysis, each alternative design was tested with each respective load case. The results can be seen tabulated below:

After analyzing and comparing results, a final alternative design was created. This design optimizes the weight and deflection of the model.

We would also like to take this time to thank Tri-Steel Fabricators, Inc. for their generous donation!

UPDATE THREE: Alternative Designs

As the quarterly report deadline is approaching, our team has been working hard on each of our alternative designs. Below are each of the preliminary designs, one per student. By next week, the designs will be analyzed using Visual Analysis. Six load cases will be analyzed per design. Improvements to the designs will be made as per Dr. Al-Omashi’s criticism.

Alternative Design #1: Stephen Fung

Alternative Design #2: Danielle Galloway

Alternative Design #3: Ross Antonchak

Alternative Design #4: Nick Sabitini

Alternative Design #5: Sierra Haney

Fundraising for the project is well under way! The team did some research and utilized donation contacts from last year’s team to reach out to a variety of companies. Companies were asked for monetary donations to support the TCNJ chapter of The American Society of Civil Engineers and the corresponding projects. We would like to thank CCA CivilBrown & Caldwell and family friends who have graciously donated to the project!

UPDATE ONE 9-14-17

The 2018 Steel Bridge Team is hitting the ground running this semester! We have been researching top teams around the nation and analyzing their designs. After talking with our machine shop technician Mr. Joe Zanetti, the team already has some solid design ideas to build from. There is lots of room for improvement and redesign for the less successful aspects of last year’s bridge. Our next goal is to create several design alternatives and test them using finite element analysis software.
