Goal: To design a vehicle layout that is safe and comfortable and will enhance the driver’s performance and abilities.

Planned Innovation:

• Use a hammock seat instead of a seat that is bolted to the vehicle frame. This will increase comfort and decrease weight. Examples of materials for a hammock seat would be nylon, kevlar, or high­strength polyester textiles. It is also planned to add an inner layer of memory foam inside the hammock seat in order to achieve optimal comfort and resistance to impact forces.
• Incorporate adjustable components in the cockpit to suit each driver, such as an adjustable steering column angle and adjustable seat orientation.
• Implement lightweight composites and materials with high strength­-to-weight ratings in all components to minimize vehicle weight.
