cushion surface

The smart cushion will provide pressure/temperature relieving care through our innovative design.

  • Temperature will be lowered by a high-powered fan that will generate air movement throughout the gluteal-device interface to cool it.
  • The compressed air will flow in the spaces between the water cells of the cushion and across any other void spaces of the interface between the user’s buttocks and the seat cushion.

The pressure mechanism will consist of a single pump connected to inlet and outlet valves for every fluid-filled bladder, that can be adjusted to correct interface pressure. Depending on sensor results and our microcontroller evaluation, the device will react to pressure accordingly.

  • A fluid reservoir, pump, and manifold system, in conjunction with solenoid and bleed valves, will be utilized to add/remove fluid and increase/decrease pressure.
  • The solenoids and pump will be activated when updated states determine it is needed by the sensor data and control algorithm.
