Hull Design

The 2016 Rules and Regulations provide limited dimensional constraints for the hull, allowing for customization of most aspects of the canoe. Explicitly stated constraints include:

  • Length – Maximum end-to-end (bow to stern) measurement taking into account the outermost longitudinal dimension of the hull is 22 feet.
  • Width – Maximum width, defined as the outermost lateral dimension of the hull, is restricted to 36 inches. The location of the maximum width may be decided by the team.

Bentley Maxsurf, a 3D modeling software, will be utilized to aid in the design process of the hull. It will also be used for assessing stability and strength of the hull during the structural analysis phase.
