Field Data

On October 18th and October 20, the team went out into the field to take measurements of the lanes, shoulders, and bridge while also taking car counts at the intersection of Smithfeild Avenue and Princeton Pike. Showing an  AM peak around 7:20 and a PM peak at 5:15

Update #1

Over the past two weeks, the team has met with Dr. Brennan and Dr. Horst on a few occasions to discuss the future of the project. Overall, the team has been working on an overall sight plan for the area of interest. Marc and Szymon spoke with Dr. Brennan to obtain .SID files to accurately measure the street and horizontal curves of the area on interest. Jack spoke with Dr. Horst, and is working on creating a synthetic unit-hydro graph for the water shed area of the bridge in question.

Brief Overview:

This year’s grade A team of seniors is comprised of Szymon Saniewski (Captain), Marc Leotta, and Jack Eelman.

Our Senior Project is the redesign of Princeton Pike at Shabakunk Creek. In short the plan is to:

  • Perform hydraulic analysis of area, focusing on 100 year return period to derive peak flow and hydrograph and create a hydraulic model to analyze the bridge.
  • Provide traffic calming measures to make Princeton Pike a more pedestrian friendly roadway by redesigning nearby intersections at Irwin Place and Gainsboro Road.
  • Conduct a vertical realignment of approaching roadway to bridge at Shabakunk Creek
