Project Overview

The American Society of Civil Engineers sponsors an annual National Concrete Canoe Competition for all eligible collegiate engineering students. The competition consists of a presentation of the canoe on a customized display, a flotation test, followed by men’s, women’s, and coed sprint and endurance races. As our Senior Design Project, our team of 5 TCNJ Civil Engineering Students will be competing in the regional competition in hopes of reaching the national competition in 2019.

The team will be working year-long to design a hydrodynamic, strong yet buoyant canoe that will fit 4 team members and perform well in speed and maneuverability. The design will be divided into the mix design of the concrete and the hull design of the canoe itself. The team will dynamically and creatively apply our previous and ongoing technical knowledge to design and construct our canoe to provide optimal performance.
