Project

The purpose of this project was to design a road diet for Parkway Avenue between the intersections of Scotch Road and Parkside Avenue.  According to Mercer County DOT, a road diet and intersection redesign was necessary for the road extending from the Parkside and Parkway intersection to the Scotch Rd and Parkway intersection.  The reason this section of road was chosen was due to the large amount of queuing of vehicles present.  The intersections were poorly designed, therefore leading to accidents and poor flow of vehicles.  Visual analysis of the roadway section supported Mercer County’s claims, and clearly presented a major problem that needed to be solved.  The roadway was also insufficient as far as being accessible to all forms of transportation, such as bikes, buses, and pedestrians.  The goal of this project was to reduce vehicle queueing, improve traffic flow, and reduce the number of accidents for the roadway section of interest.
