Exercise

The device must be able to perform the resistive opening jaw exercise. The device must be able to provide a max resistive force to jaw opening in the following three increments:

Increment 1: 30 N +/-  3 N

Increment 2: 70 N +/- 7 N

Increment 3: 108 N +/- 10  N

Resistive mouth opening exercises are recommended when range of motion is limited, the jaw muscles have become weak, and when pain is present in jaw. All of these are symptoms of TMJD and weakness of the jaw can results in recurrence of TMJD symptoms.  The resistive mouth opening exercise works to exercise the elevator jaw muscles.
